Some myths about Shilajit are as old as the herb itself.

Let’s dive into some of the most common myths about Shilajit.

Myth 1: Shilajit is only meant for men
Truth: Shilajit can be consumed by people of all genders.

Myth 2: Shilajit should not be consumed on regular basis
Truth: Shilajit can be consumed on a regular basis, assuming it has been tested for heavy metals and other contaminants in a reputable laboratory. We recommend starting out with lower dosage and gradually working your way up.

Myth 3: Shilajit should be used in its raw form
Truth: It’s a commonly held myth that purifying Shilajit reduces its potency and nutrients and this myth is farthest from truth. In fact, unfiltered raw Shilajit can be toxic as it may contain high levels of heavy metals such as mercury, lead, arsenic and cadmium and can be extremely dangerous to consume. Before buying and consuming any Shilajit product, always make sure to check and validate third party lab certifications for presence of heavy metals and other contaminants such as bacteria and fungi.

Shilajit for pets? https://www.aastikyam.com/2024/11/28/shilajit-for-pets/ https://www.aastikyam.com/2024/11/28/shilajit-for-pets/#respond Thu, 28 Nov 2024 19:45:37 +0000 https://www.aastikyam.com/?p=259 Shilajit has been consumed by humans for millennia, but did you know that animals and pets can enjoy its perks too? After all, Shilajit is believed to have been discovered and consumed by animals long before humans discovered it. Legend has that villagers found wild animals who inhabited the high altitude regions surrounding the Himalayas – including white monkeys, wild goats and deer – to be licking this soft, tar-like substance as it oozed out of cracks in the caves of Himalayas during summer months.

White monkeys who consumed Shilajit were noticeably larger and healthier than the other monkeys. When the villagers began to consume Shilajit themselves, they noticed improvement in their energy. Many have even called Shilajit “Nectar of Gods” because of its wonderful effects on physical and mental well-being. If you’ve ever wondered if Shilajit is right for your pet, you are in the right place to find some key information. With some research and knowledge, you can unlock some wonderful health benefits for your pet(s).

HOW SAFE IS SHILAJIT FOR MY PET?

While Shilajit is widely used in Ayurvedic medicine, it is valid to have concerns about its long-term use, especially for pets. Research shows that even with long-term use, the benefits of Shilajit may outweigh the concerns assuming that the Shilajit is of high quality and free of toxins and contaminants. Research on mice showed that even the highest dosage of Shilajit produced negligible changes to the liver and intestines, indicating that this alternative medicine can be highly beneficial for various conditions.

WHAT KIND OF PETS WOULD BENEFIT FROM SHILAJIT?

Shilajit holds several benefits not only for humans but also for animals. Some animals that are known to benefit from Shilajit include senior pets including dogs, cats, birds, pigs, horses, and wild animals. Dogs experience results similar to humans, showing an increase in their stamina and longevity. On the other hand, cats can detoxify and heal with the substance while slowing down age related degeneration of tissues and bones.

HOW SHOULD I GIVE SHILAJIT TO MY PET?

The best form of Shilajit to consume is resin form, for this form is the most potent and free of fillers that are otherwise present in powder, capsule and even drop forms. The proper dosage of Shilajit depends on the kind of pets you have and their size. For instance, you may give your dog or cat 1 rice grain size of Shilajit resin once a day to begin with. Some larger dogs may require more, but it’s a good idea to start with lower dosage and work towards higher dose depending on how your pet responds to it. If your pet does not like the taste of raw Shilajit, it can be mixed with water or wet food, given in a pill pocket, from a dropper, or stuffed inside a treat. Offer plenty of water to your pet for Shilajit to dissolve and circulate faster.

Shilajit is relatively safe for all pets but may cause rare side effects. Some of the side effects include upset stomach or diarrhea. To help your pet adjust, it is recommended to start with small doses. However, if you continue to experience these side effects—or any other alarming changes—it is best to visit your vet.

SHOULD I BUY SHILAJIT PRODUCTS THAT ARE FORMULATED SPECIFICALLY FOR PETS?

With growing demand of Shilajit supplements for pets, the market has responded with flood of products that claim to have been specifically designed for pets. While some of these products may be offered at a cheaper price, we advise against buying such products because Shilajit in these products could be of inferior quality or made with fillers and/or by-products. This type of product may ultimately do more harm than good.

Pets supplements are not regulated by Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) and therefore are not required to pass heavy metal and microbiological contamination testing. Therefore, we recommend buying “human-grade” Shilajit and sharing the same with your pets.

Shilajit – A Messy Affair https://www.aastikyam.com/2024/11/28/shilajit-a-messy-affair/ https://www.aastikyam.com/2024/11/28/shilajit-a-messy-affair/#respond Thu, 28 Nov 2024 19:44:18 +0000 https://www.aastikyam.com/?p=257 So you have received the package you’ve been waiting for – Shilajit. Pure Shilajit packs an aroma and taste so earthy it feels like you’ve traveled to the Himalayas. But there’s one thing nobody tells you enough about – the messiness that comes with using Shilajit. If there’s one thing people don’t like about Shilajit, it’s this. And this is exactly why there are many alternatives in the market that offer Shilajit in different forms – liquid, capsule, powder, gummies – but none as effective as resin.

Real Shilajit is a tar-like substance packed with minerals. When you scoop it out, it feels as though it doesn’t want to leave the jar (think of cheese when picking up a slice of pizza).

Genuine Shilajit does not contain any water, unlike most Shilajit that has been watered down for ease of handling and, of course, for more profits. But once you use our Shilajit regularly, you will discover the best ways to handle it and minimize the inconvenience of handling it.

Here are some tips to prepare you for what to expect and how to make the most out of Shilajit in the jar.

  1. Let it settle
Shilajit is extremely sensitive to temperature. During the summer months, Shilajit is warmer, thinner and tends to leak out of cracks (just as it seeps out from the crevices of rocks). We already add an extra seal on the mouth of the glass jar to prevent Shilajit from leaking out and sticking to the lid. When you first open the lid and the liner, you may see some Shilajit stuck to the liner. To minimize the amount of Shilajit stuck to the liner, we recommend placing the jar upright at room temperature for a few hours. You may also put it in a warmer area away from direct sunlight.
  2. Avoid creating threads when scooping out
When scooping out Shilajit, keep the spoon inside the jar while breaking away from the rest of the Shilajit. This way, you won’t create threads that can be hard to break.
  3. Add purified water and leave it overnight
If your Shilajit loses moisture and hardens, simply add a spoonful of purified water to the jar and leave it overnight. Shilajit will absorb the water evenly, presenting a thinner texture in the morning.
  4. Keep the lid and jar mouth clean
To avoid the lid getting stuck to the jar, we recommend cleaning the outer threads of the jar and the inner threads of the lid with a clean, damp kitchen towel. Removing any Shilajit from these areas will ensure the lid does not stick to the jar. If it does, run the jar under warm tap water in an upright position for a few minutes.

Once you use Shilajit regularly, you will soon learn the tricks to keep your morning Shilajit routine a breeze.

HOW SHILAJIT FORMED https://www.aastikyam.com/2024/11/28/how-shilajit-formed/ https://www.aastikyam.com/2024/11/28/how-shilajit-formed/#respond Thu, 28 Nov 2024 19:40:29 +0000 https://www.aastikyam.com/?p=253 The Himalayan mountain range was formed when Indian plate and Eurasian plate collided some 50 million years ago, trapping plant matters in the rocks for millions of years. As these plants decomposed under extreme pressure of rocks, pristine air conditions and sudden temperature changes at high altitudes, they fermented and transformed into mineral rich resin and gathered in the cracks and crevices of rocks. Containing compounds from hundreds, sometimes thousands of plants, this natural resin can’t be replicated in a lab—it can only be found in nature. Moreover, Shilajit extracted from different regions and altitudes have distinct composition and qualities.
Shilajit is classified as herb because it’s produced by the decomposition or humification of plant material from species such as Euphorbia royleana and Trifolium repens over a period of centuries.
